Pre-Gaming!

With Daylight Savings rapidly approaching I've already been planning out my vegetable garden for this spring/summer. Though I'm working one (temp) job now I'm hoping to save up for seeds so later (actually pretty soon!) I will be able to get a head start.

Two warm days this week in the 60s is making me yearn to prep the yard. This will be my 3rd vegetable garden at my home and I hope to make it even better than before. Will be sharing pictures as what yummy vegetables I plant grow and/or wither this year.

And of course I shall be sharing my heroic tales of destroying weeds, picking up neighbor's trash that just happens to land in my yard, and other exciting adventures! (^.^)

Weekend Gardener

Month of April I've been pretty quite since I worked about 7 days a week every week of it, except for this weekend!
It was so refreshing to rip out weeds and destroy their insidious plans to take over my little plot of land I created in my backyard for my vegetable garden. I'm anxious this year to plant more and utilize my yard to make the most out of my time and what seeds/plants I can afford to get this year. I didn't take any photos to document my path of destruction today but plan on taking pics of my garden as it blooms this year.

Organic Discounts!

This year I plan on expanding my gardening and planting veggies in succession so I won't have them all ripe at the same time (thereby some may spoil by the time I'd get to use them for meals) so I'm trying to be on the "ball" with seeds this year. This week at Kmart there are organic seeds at 40 percent off! I got two different types of kale, carrots, and radish seeds for under $3.
Buying fresh organic vegetables in the store can be hard on a tight budget but I'm hoping that being the bargain hunter I am will pay off with growing my own food to provide to my family this spring/summer. This week I plan on prepping my garden and possibly even planting some radish seeds left over from last year.

Gardening Cheats!

This year I am determined to have a kick butt garden! So much so that I got a few starter kits for herbs and flowers currently taking over window ledges and cramped living room end tables. I remember seeing the Buzzy brand grow kits at Target last year and was kinda meh about them but this year I'm giving them a shot, especially since it was only $1 for the chives kit.

The kits come with a little plastic pot, a soil pelt, and of course a packet of seeds.

The only thing to add is some water to the soil pellet and then tada magically enough soil for the plastic pot is created!

It is mildly amusing to see the hockey puck sized soil pellet soak up the water and grow in size. After I took the above picture it grew taller than the bowl and naturally flew over :)
I did plan on getting some plastic pots at the Dollar Tree along with some herb seeds but for what I would have paid to make a kit at home for one herb it was much more cost efficient to get the kit from Target. I have a few seeds left over that I am going to save for my garden. Now the question that remains is whether it will actually grow or not.
